2022-23

• Alumni Meet - Reunion of 1997-2000 B.Sc. Chemistry batch was held on 6th August 2022.
• Setting up of Science Lab @ Schools – Outreach Programme - The Department of Chemistry took initiatives to set up Science Laboratory in High Schools in the neighbourhood of the College.
• The Department of Chemistry comes to be recognized as an approved Research Centre under the University of Kerala. This is the first research Department in the history of St. Michael’s College.
• The official inauguration of the Research Centre in the Department of Chemistry was held on 16 September 2022. His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. James Raphael Anaparambil, the Bishop of the Diocese of Alappey and the Patron of the institution inaugurated the centre.
• Layam 2022: Mega Alumni Meet – Department of Chemistry. A Mega alumni meet of all the batches of Department of Chemistry was organized on 23rd October 2022.
• Inauguration of Chemistry Association and Alumni Lecture Series - On 2nd December 2022 Chemistry Association, Chemforum for the year 2022-23 and inauguration of Alumini Lecture series was conducted
• Inauguration of Renovated M.Sc. Chemistry Laboratory - The renovated M.Sc. Chemistry laboratory was inaugurated on 16 December 2022.
• Dr. P. Manoj, Head of the Department of Chemistry delivered an invited talk during the Training programme on “Common Spectroscopic Techniques and Data Analysis” organised by the Department of Chemistry, Christian College, Chengannur from 9 to 15 December 2022. This programme is an initiative by Department of Science and Technology (DST).
• Dr. P. Manoj, was the chief guest for the inauguration of Chemistry Association at Department of Chemistry, Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakara, Cochin on 12.10.2022.
• The Head of the Department of Chemistry, Dr. P. Manoj served as a Keynote speaker during the inauguration of Chemistry Association at Department of Chemistry, Government College, Kottayam on 18 November 2022.
• The Department of Chemistry, St. Michael’s College, Cherthala organised the Fourth National Seminar on ‘Recent Advances in Photochemistry” (NSPC 2023) cosponsored by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Education (KSCSTE) during 1-3 February 2023.
• The Department of Chemistry, St. Michael’s College, Cherthala and the Department of Physics, Kuriakose Elias College, Mannanam jointly organized the Two-Day Workshop on Facets of Research Methodology on 22nd and 23rd of September 2022.
• Science for School - A Two-Day Workshop for High School Teachers on Basic Sciences, 1- 2, February 2023.
• One day workshop on Virtual Labs in collaboration with Amrita Virtual Labs, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham on 10th March 2023.

2021-22

• Reading Week 2021: ‘Reading in the Artificial Intelligence Era: Relevance, Sine qua non, Possibilities and Challenges’ – An interactive session on 24th June 2021.
• International Ozone Day Celebrations (IOD – 2021) on 16th September 2021
• Inauguration of Chemistry Association: Chemforum – 2021 on 29th September 2021. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Anumol Ashok, from the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry at Stockholm University in Sweden.
• National Science Day Celebration (NSD – 2022) on 26th February 2022 - The Department of Chemistry, St. Michael’s College, Cherthala, Alappuzha, in association with the ENCON Club, organized an invited talk on the importance of energy conservation and environment protection on February 26th, 2022.
• Entrepreneurship Development Programme (2nd March 2022 to 5th March 2022): The Department of Chemistry, St. Michael’s College in Cherthala, in association with C-MET, Thrissur, and IHRD-Regional Centre, Ernakulam, organized an "Entrepreneurship Development Programme" from 2nd March 2022 to 5th March 2022.
• Webinar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on 22nd March 2022: The Department of Chemistry, St. Michael’s College, Cherthala organized a webinar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on March 22, 2022.

2020-21

• International Webinar Lecture Series: The inaugural lecture of the Webinar Series was the invited talk by Dr. Amar Fettle, State Nodal Officer - COVID 19, Health Services Government of Kerala.
• Alumni Lecture was given by Ms. Reshma Krishnan Madathil Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology University of Oslo, Norway.
• Dr. Sreeprasanth Pulinthanathu Sree from Department of Materials Engineering, Leuven Chem & Tech and Leuven Nano Centre, University of Leuven, Belgium delivered a talk on “Seeing the Nano" - Importance of Advanced Electron Microscopy in Nanomaterials Research.
• Chemistry Forum for this year was inaugurated by Dr. Binil Itty Ipe, Materials Process and Physics Engineer, Boeing Research and Technology, USA.
• The inaugural lecture of Michael’s Erudite Lecture Series was organized by the Department of Chemistry.  The inaugural lecture was delivered by Prof. Subi Jacob George, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCSAR), Bangalore on 12th November 2020.
• Invited talk on Food Science and Technology -  The Department of Chemistry is offering an add-on course in Food Science and Quality Control. In order to motivate students we organised an inveted lecture by Dr. K. R. Anilakumar, Scientist F, Head, Food Quality Assurance Division Reliability & Safety Group Defence Food Research Laboratory, Defence Research & Development Organisation Mysore on 4th December 2020.
• The proceedings of International conference on Photochemistry and Sustainable (ICPSE) 2019 was published in Materials Today Proceedings. Around 40 peer reviewd article were accepted for publication in this issue. Dr. P. Manoj and Dr. Pearl Augustine were served as Guest Editors. Materials Today: Proceedings, Volume: 33, Issue P2, 2020, Pages: 1229-1452.
