The visionary founder of St. Michael’s College, Cherthala, was a distinguished educationist, social reformer, and the first Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Alleppey. Born in 1910 at Chennaveli, he dedicated his life to the service of the Church and society through education and social upliftment.
Following the formation of the Diocese of Alleppey in 1952, under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Michael Arattukulam, there was a concerted effort from the stalwarts of the Diocese to realize the vision of the community towards higher education. This culminated in the genesis of this citadel of knowledge, marking a pivotal extension of their educational mission into the realm of higher learning. On July 19, 1967, this vision materialized as the college began its journey.
A participant in the Second Vatican Council, he was also instrumental in founding several educational and charitable institutions. His enduring legacy continues to inspire generations, and St. Michael’s College stands as a living testament to his noble vision and tireless efforts.
