St. Michael’s Community College

Our Community College provides an alternative education and training system for skill-based career oriented vocational Diploma courses as per National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF). It provides education below the degree level with appropriate skills keeping in view the needs of local industry and community there by leading to gainful employment or self-enterprise. The courses are approved by UGC and offered as one year diploma courses. The academic activities are managed by a team headed by the Nodal Officer and supported by an Administrative Assistant and Adhoc faculty members. So far, we have completed eight years awarding nearly 400 diploma certificates.

The UGC approved courses offered in St. Michael’s Community College are

Diploma in Garment Designing & Apparel Making and
Diploma in Beautician & Healthcare.

Objectives

To provide judicious mix of skills relating to a profession and appropriate content of General Education.
To provide flexibility to the students by means of pre-defined entry and multiple exit points.
To provide vertical mobility to students coming out of 10+2 with vocational subjects.

Industrial Partners

The industrial training required for the students are met through collaboration with skill-specific industries. At present, we have tie-ups with two firms namely, Kitex Garments Lts, Kochi and Face Me Beauty Clinic, Alappuzha. Industrial visit and report preparation is a mandatory requirement for the successful completion of the course. Industrial partners are always keen to extend support in the form of training, apprenticeship and placements services.

Other Activities

In order to get more exposure in sector specific skills, we are maintaining a beauty clinic cum tailoring centre called “AURA” along with our lecture halls. The income earned through this centre will be divided among the intern students and it is considered as an ‘earn-while-learn’ component of the course. In addition, we have been regularly organizing beauty contests, exhibitions etc
