National Cadet Corps

India, an ancient and forward looking country, needs disciplined men and women with brains and brawn capable of putting in hard work. N.C.C., a premier youth organization ever since its inception in the year 1948, is rendering yeomen service to the nation. National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services Organisation, comprising the Army, Navy and Air Wing, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. It is a national organization, which has helped in inculcating in the cadets a spirit of courage, self-reliance, selfless service, a feeling of patriotism etc. that are essential to make the youth disciplined and dutiful. The Indian Parliament passed the National Cadet Corps Act in 1948, thus creating the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

Cardinal Principles

  • Obey with a smile.
  • Be punctual.
  • Work hard and without fuss.
  • Make no excuses and tell no lies.

The motto of the NCC is Unity and Discipline

The Aims of the National Cadet Corps are:

To develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens.

To create a human resource of organised, trained and activated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life including the Armed Forces and always available for the service of the nation. Being the single largest youth organization in the world, NCC provides the cadets with ample opportunities to enhance their character, leadership, initiative, drive and comradeship amongst the youth. The wide array of activities undertaken by the NCC includes basic training sessions in first-aid, drill, communication, map reading and weapon training. Advanced training in mountaineering, rock climbing, Para jumping and cycling offer the cadets exciting vistas to quench their thirst for adventure. Apart from building sense of patriotism and a social outlook, it also moulds the cadets into able and smart citizens of tomorrow. Students are enrolled after a selection procedure. The National Cadet Corps of St Michael's College has an overall strength of 160 cadets under senior division (Boys & Girls).

St. Michael’s College, Cherthala runs the Army Wing of NCC since its inception. Our unit comes under 11 Kerala Battalion, Alappuzha, Kollam group and Kerala & Lakshadweep Directorate. There are 160 vacancies in the NCC unit in which selection is done by the Commanding officer of 11 Kerala Battalion. The Cadets will undergo a minimum of fifteen hours of training per month and attend an annual training camp of 10 days duration in the second and third year. Cadets who have the required attendance to their credit and have shown sufficient progress can appear for B and C Certificate Examinations conducted by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, at the end of the second and the third years of training respectively. Cadets are under no obligation to undertake active service but those cadets who have passed B and C certificate examinations will be given preference for joining the armed forces. Since its formation, the college NCC unit had a brilliant track record of glorious achievements all the way. This Unit has produced outstanding cadets who have brought laurel to the college and even to the nation. Our NCC cadets participated in Republic Day Camps, Thal Sainik Camps, Army Attachment camps, Advance Leadership Camps, National Integration camps, Adventure camps and other national level camps. Grace marks are awarded to NCC Candidate at the time of PG/ Professional degree admission and in the semester examination. Seats are reserved for NCC Cadets in the uniform services. The NCC unit of our college has a band troupe and interested cadets are given the opportunity to join the Band Troupe. Lt. Abin Albert T. is the present Associate NCC Officer
