CLUBS AND ASSOCIATIONS

Lapwing Nature Club

The “Lapwing Nature Club” functions very actively in this college under the leadership of the Department of Zoology. As part of the activity of the club a garden is maintained on the campus. In addition to ornamental plants variety of medicinal plants are taken care of. Ms. Patricia Michael is the coordinator of Nature Club.

Activities of the Club

  • World Environment Day 2017 was celebrated by organizing seminar on ‘Conservation of Natural Resources’ sponsored by KSCSTE on 16.06.2017
  • As part of World Environment Day 2018 distribution of curry leaves plant saplings (Murraya koengii) was done on 5-6-2018
  • As part of World Environment day celebrations 2018, Inter-Collegiate Painting Competition was organized on 12.06.2018
  • World Environment day 2018 was celebrated by organizing seminar on ‘Plastic waste management’ (Focal theme - Connecting People to Nature) sponsored by KSCTE on 13.06.2018.

Birds Club

The unit of Birds Club International, the charitable organisation to revive and conserve environment, by tapping and utilising optimum natural resources with the focus on Birds, was started at the department in 2017. The inauguration of the Club was done by Sri. Jayaraj, famous national award winning Film Director and Founder of BCI, on 18.07.2017. Dr. Antony P.J. is the coordinator of BCI on the campus.

Activities of the Club

  • As the initial step tree saplings were planted with the intention to create rain-grooves in the College campus to provide natural habitats for birds.
  • Digital photography competition was conducted for students.
  • A training program was organised for the students from schools and colleges from Alappuzha district about the production of short films. The training was given by the film director Sri. Jayaraj and his team.
  • The BCI members took part in the conduct of Rain International Nature Film Festival (RINFF) 2019 at Munnar during 25-27 January 2019

Zoology Students Association (ZEST)

An association of Zoology students, named as ZEST (keenness and enthusiasm) functions in the department with the objective to provide a platform for students for cultivation of aptitude and to improve their own capabilities, competence and organization capacities. Sri. Ebin Yesudas of III year BSc Zoology is the present Secretary and Dr. Antony P.J. is the Teacher Co-ordinator of the Association.

Activities of the association

  • The stalls set by Zest was the major attraction of Samanwaya Exhibition organised by the college in connection with Golden Jubilee celebrations during 10-15 October, 2017
  • Invited talk was delivered by Sri. P. Anurudhan, Deputy Director of Fisheries and an alumnus of the department, on 25.08.2017
  • Photo exhibition-Nature (1-11-2017) by Zoology Students Association
  • The Zoology association ZEST 2018-2019 was inaugurated by Dr.KN Panicker. iNTD Chairman & Chief of ACLFP, Amruta Institute of Medical Sciences. The function was presided by Dr.Mathew V,Principal of the college and Prof.Annie Jose K felicitated the function.Vote of Thanks was given by Sachin Sajan,ZEST Secratory
  • Participation in the flood relief camp (18th to 23rdAugust 2018) by ZEST members
  • Every year Zoology Students Association take the initiative to celebrate festivals like Onam and Christmas
  • Conducted ZEST Expo in 2020

Zoology Alumni Association (ZAS)

ZAS is functioning in the college since 2009 and meetings are conducted every year. Prof. Annie Jose K. is the President since 2012 and Dr. John Thomas Associate Professor (retired) from Christ College, Iringalakuda is the Vice-President of the association.

Recent activities

  • Participation in Samanwaya Mega Exhibition & Financial Contribution for the Golden Jubilee sports complex (10-10-17 to 15-10-2017)
  • Golden Jubilee Mega Alumni Meet was Inaugurated by Sri Aravind Babu, District Judge(1976 batch) on 18-02-2018
  • Honoring Ceremony of Former Teachers and Get together of Batch 1984-1987 on 5-01-2018.
  • An Alumini mega gathering named ‘Ardramiormakal’ was organized in connection with golden jubilee celebrations on 18.02.2018
  • A one day programme was organized by ZAS members of ‘1984-87 batch on 5/1/2019 in the zoology lab
  • As part of the Ruby Jubilee Celebrations of the department, the former teachers and the first batch of B.Sc Zoology students were honored in the college auditorium on 17th August 2019
  • An alumni meeting of BSc Zoology (2000 – 2003) batch was held on 23rd October 2022 (Sunday) in the Final year Zoology Classroom.
  • A Reunion of the BSc Zoology 1982- 1985 batch was held in the Zoology Lab on 21st January 2023
  • A gathering of alumni members from the very first batch of BSc Zoology (1976 –’79) was held at Aswani Hotel in Cherthala.
  • Members of Zoology Alumni (1982 –’85 batch) contributed Rs. 25000/- towards renovation works of Zoology Museum that is being progressed.
  • Mr. Clarence, an alumnus of 1976 –’79 batch BSc zoology contributed Rs. 50000/- towards renovation of Zoology Museum and Laboratory.
  • An Alumnus from 2016 – ’19 batch contributed lab coats to the department for distributing to the needy students.

The Ceaseless Ascent
