Conferences/Seminars

Established in 1980, the Department of Chemistry of St. Michael’s College offers undergraduate, postgraduate, Ph.D. programs in Chemistry and actively involved in Research. Department has a Research Centre equipped with new scientific instruments. The thrust area of research includes Materials Science, Organic Electronics, Photochemistry, Renewable Energy, and Sensors. The research programmes of the Department are financially supported by University Grants Commission (UGC), Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Emerging (KSCSTE) in the form of Major and Minor Research Projects. The good work of the department has been recognized by DST-FIST funding and funding from other agencies.

Over the years the Department has conducted several excellent International, National, State and Regional level conferences, seminars, and workshops on frontier areas of Chemistry for the benefit of students, faculty and research scholars. Academic conferences/seminars are a great platform for a productive exchange of ideas. Students and research scholars of the institution get a chance to share their research and engage in insightful discussions with others on the latest happenings in the field of study. These types of academic conferences offer a well-structured mix of activities, including panel sessions, keynote speakers, oral and poster presentations, exhibits, workshops, and interactive Q & A sessions. This is an ideal platform for the students to discuss ideas or identify research problems that can collaborate on to create something bigger and better with the potential to create significant impact in the future.

The department organizes a National Seminar Series entitled ‘National Seminar on Recent Advances in Photochemistry’ (NSPC), once every two years, for celebrating the latest research and innovations in the area of chemical sciences. NSPC provides a platform for scientists, researchers, as well as students to present their research findings and innovation activities.
