തിരയിളക്കം - 2023

സുഹൃത്തുക്കളെ ഭൂമിയെ കൂടുതൽ വാസയോഗ്യമാക്കാനുള്ള പ്രയത്നങ്ങൾ ആഗോളതലത്തിൽ നടക്കുകയാണ്. ഭാവി തലമുറയ്ക്ക് സ്വസ്ഥവും സുരക്ഷിതവുമായ ഒരു ജീവിത പരിസ്ഥിതി സൃഷ്ടിക്കുക ഇന്നിന്റെ അനിവാര്യതയാണ്. 2070 ഓടെ ഭൂമിയെ വിഷരഹിതമാക്കി തീർക്കണമെന്ന് തീരുമാനമെടുക്കുന്നതിനിടയിലാണ് സാക്ഷരകേരളം 2050 നുള്ളിൽ വിഷരഹിത നാടാക്കി മാറ്റണമെന്ന് നമ്മൾ തീരുമാനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഈ നാട് ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന അന്തരീക്ഷം, ജലം, മണ്ണ് തുടങ്ങിയവയെ വാസയോഗ്യമാക്കി മാറ്റാനുള്ള ഉദ്യമമാണല്ലോ Carbon Neutrality എന്ന് നാം പറഞ്ഞു പോരുന്നത്. ഈ ലക്ഷ്യം മുന്നിൽ കണ്ടുകൊണ്ട് ചേർത്തല സെന്റ് മൈക്കിൾസ് കോളേജ് സമീപപ്രദേശത്തുള്ള അഞ്ചു സ്വയംഭരണ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ സഹകരണത്തോടെ ഒരു പ്രോഗ്രാം തയ്യാറാക്കുകയാണ്. പ്രദേശത്തെ പന്ത്രണ്ടോളം വിദ്യാലയങ്ങളും ഇതിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കും. തിരയിളക്കം 2023 എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ പദ്ധതിയുടെ വിജയത്തിനായി ഏവരുടെയും സഹകരണം അഭ്യർത്ഥിക്കുന്നു.

Proclamation Rally

The Proclamation Rally for 'Thirayilakkom 2023' Science-Literature-Cultural-Agricultural-Mega Event envisioned and hosted by St.Michael's College was flagged off by Fr.Yesudas Kattungathayyil, from St. Francis Assisi Higher Secondary School, Arthunkal on 18th October at 10.30 am. The rally covered six village panchayats in close proximity and the announcement was made with the accompaniment of the Thirayilakkom theme song which was released on the same day. The NSS voluteers won hearts through their proclamatory flash mob performed at all destinations. As the rally arrived at the Michael's campus, the principal Dr. Sindhu S. Nair lit the lamp and inaugurated the Mega Thiruvathira performed by around 100 ladies.

Day1

The inaugural session of Thirayilakam 2023 was held on the 20th of October, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., commencing with a prayer song by Sri. Bharthwaj of I BSc Zoology. Prof. Dr. Sindhu S Nair, Principal of St. Michael’s College, welcomed the esteemed gathering, setting the stage for the day's proceedings. Sri. P Prasad, Minister of Agriculture, delivered the presidential address, emphasizing the critical role of agriculture and sustainability. P Prasad recited the zero-waste pledge, inspiring a commitment to waste reduction and environmental sustainability. Rev. Dr. James Raphel Anaparambil, Bishop of Alapuzha Diocese, eloquently stressed the importance of an eco-friendly life as a spiritual responsibility. The ceremony included the symbolic lighting of a lamp, signifying the enlightenment of minds. Fr. Nelson Thaiparambil, Chairman of BEAD, provided valuable insights, and Sri. M M Arif, MP, Alappuzha, delivered the keynote address outlining the event's objectives. Srimathi Delima Jojo, MLA, Aroor, offered her felicitation and a mesmerizing song. Sri. Hari Prabakar, Managing Director NGGFN, highlighted the significance of achieving carbon neutrality. The event was graced by esteemed individuals, including Srimathi Sudarsana Bhai and Sri P Haris. Dr. Antony Kuriakose, Vice Principal of St. Michael’s College, expressed gratitude on behalf of the organizing committee. The inaugural session titled “Thirayum Varyum” was skillfully conducted by artist Gopakumar and his team, engaging participants in drawing pictures to foster creativity. The second session, following a lunch break, featured captivating experiments and explanations by Sri. Najeem K Sultan, a Science Populariser. The day concluded with a mesmerizing performance by the Cochin Classic Orchestra.

Day2

The second day of Thirayilakam 2023 commenced with an enlightening academic journey led by Dr. C Jayaraman, Head of Energy Audit Division at Team Sustain Limited, Kochi, who explored the complex topic of Carbon Neutrality. The interactive session engaged the audience and emphasized the impact of energy consumption on atmospheric temperature and global warming. A panel discussion on climate change followed, featuring Dr. M A Narayanan, an expert in Energy Policies and Projects, along with Dr. Manoj P and student representatives. In the afternoon, the focus shifted to biodiversity, guided by Dr. Sabu T, CED Program Director, who stressed the importance of biodiversity conservation. The subsequent panel discussion included Smt. Suja Eapen, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Smt. Reshma Sumesh, Sri Sujith S P, Dr. Teny David, and student representatives, contributing to an enriching discourse on the topic.

Day3

On the third day of Thirayilakkam 2023, the focus was on health, art, and literature. The health session began at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Padmakumar B, a specialist from the Department of General Medicine at General Medical College, Alappuzha, delivering a comprehensive speech on healthcare. The discussion panel, including Dr. K B. Shahul, Dr. M. Jayaraj, Dr. Krishna Priya, and Dr. Chandrasobha, addressed health topics like dust allergies across various medical fields, promoting a holistic healthcare approach. The session also emphasized Sidha Ayurveda's role in healthcare and the support provided by the Homeopathy sector. The afternoon session focused on art and literature, featuring figures like Shri. Kavalam Balachandran, Shri. P.J. Antony, Shri. Vishwanath P, Shri. Vayalar Gopalakrishnan, and Shri. K.A Sebastian. The panel discussion eloquently emphasized the profound significance of art and literature in human existence, their connection to the environment, and their impact on culture and diversity. PJ Antony's perspective on literature as a reflection of human society added depth to the conversation, fostering an appreciation for creativity and storytelling in the artistic and literary community.

Day4

On the fourth day of Thirayilakam, the focus was on Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, and Energy Conservation. The academic session on Artificial Intelligence (AI), led by Prof. (Dr.) Achuth Shanker S. Nair, Head of the Department of Computation Biology at the University of Kerala, offered a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements and applications of AI across various fields. The session aimed to impart a deeper understanding of this rapidly evolving field, starting with the fundamental concepts of AI, such as machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning. Dr. Nair skillfully simplified complex ideas, making them accessible to the audience.

A panel discussion featuring Prof. (Dr.) Achuth Shankar Nair and Dr. Mini Ullanad (Former Chair IEEE Kerala Section Global Committee Member-Women in Engineering) delved into issues concerning cyber security and AI. The session concluded with a stimulating discussion on the future prospects of AI, shedding light on the potential opportunities and challenges in the era of AI-driven innovation. Dr. Nair encouraged the audience to embrace continuous learning and adaptability to stay up-to-date in the dynamic AI landscape. He also recommended the organization of regular workshops and seminars on AI to deepen understanding and suggested the establishment of an AI research hub within the college to promote cutting-edge AI research projects. Collaborating with industry leaders and AI experts was advised to facilitate hands-on training and internships for students, providing them with practical experience in the field.

The afternoon session centered on an interaction with Dr. Shashi Tharoor, a Member of Parliament. St. Michael's College, Cherthala, had the privilege of hosting this interactive session featuring the renowned politician and scholar. The discussion covered a range of topics, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Security and Energy Conservation. Dr. Tharoor's presence and expertise in these areas offered valuable insights and perspectives to the students and faculty in attendance. Approximately 300 students from various colleges and schools in the Alleppy district participated in the session.

In conclusion, the interactive session led by Shashi Tharoor at St. Michael's College, Cherthala, was an enlightening and thought-provoking event. Dr. Tharoor's expertise and eloquence made a lasting impact on the audience, inspiring them to contemplate the significance of these critical topics in shaping a sustainable and progressive future for India. The day concluded with a captivating performance by Sri Pradeep Marari and the Shivtharag Arts Academy.

Day5

The fifth day of Thirayilakam unveiled with the Vidhyarambham ceremony at college for the registered candidates. The principal of St Michael's College, Cherthala Prof. (Dr.) Sindhu S. Nair initiated the young learners into the world of knowledge guiding their delicate hands to inscribe upon the sacred surface of rice.

The Ceaseless Ascent

The cherished dream of an enlightened society ideally depends on quality education. Driven and inspired by this proven fact, the community of the Diocese of Alleppey made its resolute entry into the field of higher education.
